  1. UK to RomeYour door-to door driver takes you to your choice of local airport. Arrive at Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci airport and transfer to the 4* Hotel Mediterraneo. This evening meet your fellow travellers for a welcome reception with drink and light meal.
  2. RomeStart today with a visit to spiritual St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City followed by a tour including the Colosseum. The rest of the day is at leisure. B
  3. Rome to Pisa to Santa MargheritaDrive through the Tuscan countryside and enjoy wine tasting and an informative talk about Chianti wines. Then continue to Pisa, celebrated for its ‘Leaning Tower’ before journey’s end at the charming seaside resort of Santa Margherita where the 3* Plus Best Western Hotel Regina Elena welcomes you for the night.   4. Santa Margherita to Portofino to Italian LakesEnjoy a short cruise (weather permitting) along the Ligurian coast to the elegant village of Portofino. There is time to browse the shops and admire the yachts in the harbour before continuing to beautiful Lake Maggiore in the Italian Lake district. Tonight you stay at the 4* Simplon Hotel. B D
  5. Italian Lakes to Verona to VeniceFollow the Southern Alps to Verona where you will see Juliet’s balcony before enjoying a typical lunch of the region. Then it’s off to Romantic Venice where on arrival you will check in to the 4* Molino Stucky Hilton Hotel for a two night stay. BL
  6. VeniceTravel by private launch to St Mark’s Square. Take in the Bridge of Sighs and St Mark’s Basilica and after a glass blowing demonstration enjoy a gondola ride. The afternoon is at leisure. B
  7. Venice to FlorenceHead to the Tuscan capital to see the Statue of David, Giotto’s bell Tower and the Basilica of Santa Croce before a leather work demonstration and some time at leisure. Check in to the 4* NH Firenze Hotel for two nights. B D
  8. FlorenceAn entire free day to explore this beautiful city. B
  9. Florence to SorrentoHead through the rich volcanic hills of Frascati to Cassino where you will visit the Commonwealth Cemetery. Then continue along the cliff top road to Sorrento and the 4* Grand Hotel La Pace for two nights. B
  10. Sorrento and CapriCruise to the island of Capri this morning taking a funicular train to Capri town on arrival. Spend time at leisure before returning to Sorrento. This evening choose from a selection of restaurants for dinner. B D
  11. Sorrento to TaorminaHead along the edge of the mountainous Calabria region to the very toe of Italy to Reggio Calabria. After the short ferry crossing to Sicily head for the 4* Hotel Villa Diodoro for an overnight stay. B D
  12. TaorminaTour the hillside town of Taormina including the Greek Theatre that offers superb views of Mt. Etna. Then check in at the 4* Hotel Caparena located by the beach. B
  13. Taormina to PalermoJourney to Agrigento and enjoy a walking tour along the fortified ridge to witness the Valley of the Temples, before heading to Palermo for an overnight stay. B D
  14. Palermo and overnight ferryEnjoy a tour of Palermo and some free time before you depart on your overnight ferry. B
  15. Overnight ferry to Pompeii to RomeArrive in Naples in time for breakfast and an orientation tour of the city. Continue to Pompeii, buried in 79 AD by an eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Enjoy a tour before returning to Rome and the 4* Sheraton Hotel, well positioned for the airport for your final night. Enjoy a farewell Celebration dinner complete with pasta and music. B D
  16. Rome to UKYour flight leaves this morning and your door-to-door driver will meet you and take you home. B

Travel Notes

This tour is operated by our travel partner, Insight Vacations, a specialist escorted tour operator in Europe.

One of the more lively paced tours with some longer touring days. These are moderated with frequent stops, often with great photo opportunities such as in Pisa. The itinerary is balanced by the free day in Florence, careful planning of the overnight ferry and free time in several idyllic resorts.

You may like to spend a little longer in Rome at the start of your tour. Extra nights at the 4* Hotel Mediterraneo cost from £142 per person, based on two people sharing (from £58 single supplement).

There is a supplement of £25 per person for all extensions and transfers are not included in the price.
